Colleen decided that she wanted to start her own vocal jazz ensemble after she got tired of waiting for Darmon Meader to realize she existed. She attended Cuesta Community College for about a dozen years and found her calling there as she gradually discovered her focus shift from Musical Theater to ensemble vocal jazz singing. While at Cuesta, Colleen sang lead soprano in the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, Vocé. As a member of that ensemble she performed at a national IAJE convention, a regional ACDA, and at both the Montreux Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival. With a great effort she managed to leave Cuesta and transfer to California State University Northridge, where she got her Bachelor’s degree. Without skipping a beat, Colleen applied for and was accepted into the Graduate Studies program at CSU Long Beach, where she is still (slowly, of course!) pursuing a Masters degree in Jazz Voice.
Despite missing the beauty of the Central Coast, Colleen is glad she moved to Los Angeles because otherwise she never would have met the talented and wonderful people that comprise Down 4 The Count. She currently lives in Camarillo, CA and works as a bookkeeper when she’s not singing or arranging. ../Colleen_Keene/Welcome.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0
